Sleep apnea, snoring & your health

Sleep apnea can be the reason for many common symptoms and health problems that can seriously affect you. Sleep apnea can cause fatigue, disease and suffering, destroy quality of life, and even shorten life when this phantom of the night is not recognized and treated.

Sleep apnea is also called obstructive sleep apnea or sleep apnea syndrome. Another type of sleep apnea is called central sleep apnea. Sometimes they are found together as mixed sleep apnea. In obstructive sleep apnea the upper airway becomes blocked or obstructed and you cannot breathe. You can't sleep and breathe at the same time, so your brain wakes you up over and over all night. Central sleep apnea has similar effects on sleep and health but has a different origin and is treated differently.
