SCORPION SLS

RETIRED DUE TO SELF INFLICTED CORE SAMPLE

One giant leap to 24mm diameter motors.

The Scorpion SLS is a "Semroc large scale" model. It weighs more and the materials are a bit more robust than previous models we have built.

They need to be because this 28" smoothie can launch on F rated engines which ignite with a force of over 30 Newtons hurling the Scorpion well over a half a mile into the sky. It's one of Semroc's "RetroRepro" series which adapts today's materials and building technology to model rocket designs of the past. The results are stunning. The Scorpion SLS is based on the Centuri brand Scorpion Space Probe originally introduced in their 1965 catalog. You can order the Scorpion, the other SLS models and lots of other stuff right from Carl and Cheryl at SEMROC

You can see and hear the thrilling first flight of the Scorpion which took place on May 28, 2006 on an Estes C-11-3 motor in full moving (634kb) quicktime video by clicking the photos below.
